雷宇鳴變得很沒有自信，直到念大同工商時，英文老師一句「你看起來形象不錯，可以幫我一個忙嗎？」這個不經意的讚美，讓雷宇鳴對英文產生興趣，不僅一舉拿下英文科的校長獎，也讓他重拾信心；進入淡大國貿系後，在學長的介紹下，他加入了安麗，並悟出「人生不能當一根筷子，要成為一把筷子」的道理，因而在大學時代，他就有一份上班族的收入。大學畢業後，雷宇鳴曾經在一家船務公司服務，但是為了追求心中的理想，他決定放棄這份月薪八萬元的工作，從此在安麗一路打拚至今。
