Chap Go Me(十五暝) /Yuan Xiao (元宵节, 元宵節 as Chinese Valentine’s Day(情人节) 2012

Cha̍p-gō-mê (十五暝) or Yuanxiao Festival (元宵, 元宵節)  as Chinese Valentine's Day (Chinese: ; pinyin: Qíng rén jié)  is on 6th Feb 2012 (Monday). Chap go me, In Hokkien dialect, it means the 15th night of Chinese New year. It is celebrated with prayers and offerings to mark the end of the Chinese New Year. Houses are again brightly decorated with lights for the last day of the celebration. Legend has seem young unmarried women throwing tangerines into the sea hoping to find a good husband. Some people write good wishes on their oranges( some uses apple or banana ), while others are just looking to meet new people granted. There are some people are looking for that special person, whether or not they believe in the likelihood of it happening through a chance introduction via mandarin oranges/apple/banana.

Some people will gather together for a party and makan-makan(have meal together) or family dinner. This year our Chap Go Me celebrations, We had our family dinner at Oversea Restaurant at Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur on 6th Feb 2012 (Monday). After this day, business as usual and everyone is looking forward for the next Chinese New Year.
