拜年是中国民间的传统习俗，是人们辞旧迎新、相互表达美好祝愿的一种方式。我们通常知道的是正月初一家长带领小辈出门谒见亲戚、朋友、尊长，以吉祥语向对方祝颂新年，卑幼者并须叩头致礼，谓之“拜年”。主人家则以点心、糖食、红包（压岁钱）热情款待之。小朋友的红包称作压岁钱，是表示把祝福和好运带给他们。每年春节期间有发红包的习俗，部份地区是已婚者发给未结婚的亲友。发红包的习惯一般只存在于比较亲近的亲戚朋友之间。也有部分地区，新年发红包的范围比较广泛，例如邻居家的小朋友、普通交情的同事之间都有可能发红包.
